A fun quick exercise to get us acquainted here on KnowledgeNet: An introduction to the folks behind the A&D Materials Pledge Working Group & staff!

    Who we are?

Hi folks! My name is Eana Bacchiocchi (she/her), and I'm the AIA Climate Action Program Manager working on both the A&D Materials Pledge and 2030 Commitment. I'm based in Washington, D.C. but originally from Brooklyn, NY and have been working at the AIA for 2 1/2 years. My background is in climate policy and environmental justice. This year, I'm most excited about our launch of the Materials Pledge reporting survey (check back in during the late spring/early summer) and continuing to work with our wonderful members that are focused on intersectional implementations of material health for the built environment.

Up next will be more member leadership introductions - so stay tuned!

    Who we are?

Hi folks! My name is Melissa Morancy, Associate AIA (she/her), and I am the Climate Action Program Director who works with out A&D Materials Pledge as well as the 2030 Commitment. I recently relocated to North Carolina after almost a decade in DC. I have been working at AIA for over 10 years after spending over 7 years in architectural practice. I am really proud of all the hard work our Working Group has done in the past year moving the pledge forward and narrowing down such a broad topic to a set of metrics for the profession to track our progress towards our goals.

Next up is the newest member of our esteemed working group @Misha Semënov-Leiva, AIA!

Hi everyone! I'm Misha Semënov-Leiva, the Sustainability Coordinator at Centerbrook Architects and Planners in Connecticut. I'm thrilled to be working on the Materials Pledge with such a passionate group of sustainable materials nerds. As a busy architect, I know that sustainable practices only get integrated into projects if they are very well-organized and effectively presented, and my hope is that our working group will come up with reporting metrics and tools to help all of our member firms seamlessly build material reporting into their workflow.

At our firm, I'm responsible for integrating energy, daylight, materials, carbon, and other sustainability considerations across our broad portfolio of projects. Outside of obsessing over EPDs and EUIs, I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast and I love exploring my home in the Connecticut River valley on bicycle, skis, and kayak.

Hi all! I'm Tanya Eagle, Leader of Sustainability Standards for Perkins Eastman and co-chair of the AIA Materials Pledge Working Group. I'm based in Washington, D.C., but work across our global offices to integrate sustainability into our culture and our project work. I have been involved with AIA Materials efforts since 2016, and was fortunate enough to be involved in the creation of the AIA Materials Pledge. I'm now looking forward to the release of the Materials Pledge reporting metrics this year, to hopefully spark conversation and action across our industry!

Hello, All!  I'm Maria Papiez, an architect and Director of Sustainable Design for EwingCole.  I'm in my second year on the Materials Pledge Working Group, and first year as a Co-Chair.  I'm passionate about materials and the tremendous potential for good that scope of our work holds.  With my background in environmental chemistry and biology, I love digging into materials optimization for ingredient disclosure and lifecycle impacts.

I value the holistic foundation of the five health categories of the Pledge - a structure that encourages us to avoid tunnel vision and to be aware of all impacts.  My hope for our work with the Materials Pledge is to keep sharing that message, through our upcoming reporting framework and future educational resources!
