I'm excited to attend The Built Environment: Drawing on Design hosted by the ABA Forum on Construction Law from October 23-25 in Pittsburgh! This Fall Meeting is all about design, with sessions covering everything from the design process and contract negotiation to the latest in design-build, BIM, and professional liability insurance, featuring experts from both the design and legal communities.

I'd love to know-who else is planning to attend or is interested? Let me know if you'll be there, and we can connect!

You can find out more details about the event here.

It looks like there were some great topics to discuss. Can you share what you found the most interesting insights to be? Does AIA collaborate with ABA on any education sessions?

    Hi Sharon,

I really enjoyed my time at the conference and found the discussions incredibly insightful, especially regarding the use of AIA Contract Documents in practice. Topics such as the role of the Initial Decision Maker and the integration of BIM as a legal document were particularly compelling and well-covered in the sessions.

AIA and ABA have collaborated together in the past, recently AIA participated in the Spring 2023 meeting. At this meeting it was exciting to see several AIA members and counsel from a few firms contributing their expertise during the conference.

There are affiliate members of AIA like me who are also ABA Forum on Construction Law members.  For more information about upcoming events, the ABA Forum on Construction Law has a website, Forum on Construction Law and a LinkedIn page, American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law: Posts | LinkedIn.  If you follow the LinkedIn page, you'll likely see all of the advertised programming.  The referenced program was in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. There are national programs that take place quarterly, and also regional and subgroup events at various times during the year.  The next up is a regional program on Infrastructure Construction taking place in four cities on the same day, using local faculty.  See 2024 Regional Meeting.  I'm speaking at the Chicago program on Power Systems (EPC) construction contracts for that one.
