Legacy House: An Architectural Firm’s Solution to the Housing CrisisAfter years of contributing our time and energy to any number of community programs (pro bono work, specialty events, outings, dinners, etc.) it became evident that most of these programs, though well intentioned, do very little for those who need our help the most. In 2018, Moody Nolan decided it was high time that they devote much more of our time and resources to addressing the plight of the least advantaged in our community and, in so doing, provide direct and meaningful service to those who have been underserved for far too long. Therefore, they created the Moody Nolan Legacy Project and will make a substantial financial contribution including their design and oversight skills to design and construct a new, freestanding residence as a gift to a financially struggling or houseless family. Moody Nolan has teamed up with the local housing authorities and local community organizations who may donate the land for the home and provide supportive services to choose the family and teach soft skills to the family to sustain their life in the Legacy House. Planned as an annual gift, Moody Nolan will design and oversee the construction of a home in all 12 the communities where the firm has offices. This effort has already been completed in Columbus, Ohio and Nashville, Tennessee. Each Legacy House may vary in design and approach to address the different needs and social conditions of each city.Presented by Yanitza Brongers Marrero, FAIA
