A Spotlight on Behavioral Health Projects: Models for Behavioral Health, Drug Treatment & Homeless Services
Behavioral health challenges, substance abuse, and homelessness are pressing issues nationwide, particularly in our cities. Addressing these interconnected challenges requires innovative building models and integrated service approaches. San Francisco is at the forefront of these efforts, with over 20 projects—either in design, under construction, or recently completed—that provide new solutions, including crisis stabilization units, child and family therapy facilities, modular buildings, and adaptive reuse strategies.
This course explores lessons learned from these projects, emphasizing post-occupancy analysis, reimagining program design, and optimizing space planning. Through user-centered, integrated solutions, we will demonstrate how to improve service navigation, enhance connectivity, and create more effective support networks for individuals in need.
