Description:
The CAFM KC is pleased to present a prescient webinar exploring the implications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to Facilities Management. Providing guidance for the 90-minute session is Dana "Deke" Smith, FAIA and Birgitta Foster, both from the executive leadership of buildingSMART alliance. Long entrenched in the development of BIM, Deke and Birgitta will share their insights to illustrate how architects as designers should design with a focus on how the facility is going to be maintained over its 100+ year life.
Their contention is that many facilities built today, even with BIM (and maybe even more so due to the complexity of BIM), are very difficult, if not impossible to maintain. As a result, a significant opportunity exists for architects to move from a project-centric mindset to one where they become their customers “go to” person for the life of the facility, helping facilities management professionals with everything from renovations to asset management to routine maintenance with their building information model applications.
This is a “must attend” webinar for all architects who seek to be more valuable to their customers and facilities management professional who want a window into what will surely be replacing 2-D CAD files and O&M manuals delivered in three-inch three-ring binders.
Learning Objectives:
- Improve understanding of BIM and why is important to both the architecture and facilities management professions.
- Provide insight and understanding of potential expansion of the architect's scope, roles, and opportunities to the client/customer as it pertains to maintaining the life of their facilities.
- Discuss benefits of BIM to the facilities management profession and how BIM will fundamentally reshape their profession from leveraged knowledge of integrated technology to work flow processes.
- Give participants, both architects and facilities management professionals, common understanding necessary to create a meaningful dialogue from project inception through the full life-cycle management of the facilities.
