Webinar 1 HSW: Learning the fundamentals of building performance simulation

When:  Apr 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Building Performance

AIA members understand the tremendous potential of Building Performance Simulation tools to address some of the key challenges facing the building industry in the 21st century by improving design and operation.  Making the most of this potential requires us to adequately prepare users to effectively apply tools with full knowledge of their applicability, modelling limitations, and default methods and data and provide them with the skill set to scrutinise their results. In this webinar, we'll explore the importance of teaching the fundamentals of how BPS tools model physical processes, the impact of modelling choices, and the significance of input data, including hidden defaults.

Speaker Bio

Ian Beausoleil-Morrison is Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University, situated in Ottawa, Canada.  President of the International Building Performance Simulation Association from 2010 to 2015 and the 2021 recipient of its Distinguished Achievement Award, over the past three decades he has researched, developed, and validated models and simulation tools for buildings and energy systems.  He is the author of the textbook Fundamentals of Building Performance Simulation, and he co-founded and has served as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation since its inception in 2008.
