HUD recently issued a request for comments (due September 14) asking specifically about the formula allocation methodologies used to determine funding from HUD's CDBG-DR. This is a critical question: the formulas will determine the total estimate of unmet needs related to housing, economic revitalization, and infrastructure in the most impacted and distressed areas resulting from a catastrophic major disaster. The recently approved Road to Housing Act directs HUD to establish a standing formula for allocation to most impacted and distressed areas (see Section 124). The updated law also allows local and state governments to use CDBG dollars directly to support new affordable housing projects.
We are encouraging AIA members to submit substantive comments by the deadline. To do that, go here and click "submit a public comment" at the top right side. Enter your comment in the box or upload a document. Feel free to forward anything you submit to me (michaeldonovan@aia.org) for our records.
Thank you,
Michael Donovan
