Is #
AIARepositioning enough, or are we doomed? Our profession has been mired in decades of lusting after sculpture filled with program and self celebratory starchitect hero worship. We created this ourselves. We as an institution have become jaded and blinded to the needs and wants of the community at large.
I think Hans Christian Andersen describes this moment in our AIA history best...
When the Emperor parades before his subjects in his new clothes, a child cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!"
71 negative reviews and a voice from AIA : http://www.civicart.org/issues-eisenhower-criticism.html I am only the 72nd person in that line, but its frankly embarrassing to me.

I agree with the gist of Davld's comments. Here's why: A House vote would represent a vote of confidence, or not, of a design developed through a corrupt process. Us locals know a little about GSA antics. The design is so overblown, with its silly two-block long screen and columns that suggests to the world "Last Gasp of Empire". What will foriegners and children make of this? What is interesting is that the bill proposer is talking about economy of means, a modernist tenet totally ignored in this case. Methinks turnabout is fair play, and fighting the bill makes an ass of the AIA. By what consensus of rank and file membership does Mr. Ivy persue this matter?

...sometimes "innovative thinking" alone, without respect to budget, or a solution responsive to President Eisenhower, the community, or the paying public is worth taking a stand on...
Sometime juries are wrong.
Sometimes the AIA is wrong.
Isn't that the entire purpose of the AIA Repositioning? Reflection!

For what its worth, this opinion does not speak for me!
