Another behind the times moment with my AIA Documents software.  First it was trying to get an update to work with Office 2013.  That came about halfway thru this year so I lost about 6 months of use of my software I have on the $719 annual subscription service.

Now, as I am completing a B305 - Architect's Qualification Statement, I have learned that in this age of graphics and programs that allow pictures to be inserted into documents, our wonderful AIA software cannot handle even the smallest (107 kb) pictures.  I have inserted 23 - 107 kb (average size and nothing over 275 kb) pictures into the B305 Word Document.  When I generate my final to the PDF document, the program gives me two error messages regarding memory.

I contacted Support and was told it is a software issue and that I could take the pictures out of the AIA document, put them in another document, and generate a PDF file of that second document.  I asked why I would want to do that when I want the images in one document.  Other programs like Word, Power Point, Excel, AutoCAD let me generate PDFs from the base file with images.  Technical Support could not answer.  I then asked if they had plans to fix the issue so the program could have "more memory" to allow graphics to be inserted in the base document and a PDF be created.  I was told they were working on a web-based version of the software.  I am not sure what this means but it did not answer my question.

The AIA Contract Document software does some strange things with spacings and strike-throughs when you simply attempt to add language to the documents, so it doesn't surprise me in the least that it won't accept graphics or jpeg images. I have found that it's best to attach an Exhibit to the Agreement and reference it within the document accordingly. You won't find yourself cursing at your computer as much, Brian!

Have you tried exporting the AIA document to pdf and use the function 'paste clipboard image as stamp tool'.

The only issue is I am not sure if there is any limitation on size of image and how many images the file can carry. I have inserted images 2Mb in size without any issue but have not tested the limit yet.

    Brian,
Try saving the file as a JPEG image then convert this image to a PDF; works every time.

The SDA (Society for Design Administration) has a LinkedIn Group, with an AIA Contract Documents sub-group. (Search for "SDA National.") You might re-post your question there and see if any of the administrators in the group can help you out.
