I received the following email from the National Trust. Can this be right? If so, why hasn't the AIA been on top of this? Please check it out and write, email or call your representatives to reinstate the historic tax credits.
"As you may know, tax reform is a hot topic on Capitol Hill, and as summer temperatures rise, so does the pressure to make the case for federal historic tax credits (HTC).
The leaders of the Senate Finance Committee have asked all senators to identify, by July 26, which tax breaks, deductions and credits should be put back in to the tax code. The Finance Committee has adopted a "blank slate approach," meaning that the historic tax credit will be stripped from the tax code, and only added back in if enough senators make a compelling case for it .
The time to act is now!
Please ask your senators to support the HTC . For you convenience, a sample email has been prepared. It may be customized with your personal comments.
Losing the historic tax credit would mean losing the federal government's most significant financial investment in historic preservation, by far. Thank you for standing up for our nation's history and our economy.
Best,

I guess the same is true for energy tax credits. Your help is appreciated
